Serving 30+ Massachusetts Communities Since 2000
A pool installation is not just a pool. It is an excavation project, a plumbing project, an electrical project, a hardscape project, a drainage project, and a landscape project, all happening on the same piece of property within the same timeline.
Most homeowners who start researching pool installation quickly realize that the pool itself is only one piece. The paver deck around it needs a proper base. The drainage has to be graded away from the house and the pool shell. Electrical and plumbing need licensed trades. Permits and inspections need scheduling. The surrounding landscape needs to be restored or redesigned. And someone has to coordinate all of it.
At J. Gudiel Landscape, that someone is Jose. We do not subcontract the deck to one company, the landscaping to another, and the excavation to a third. Our team manages the full scope of the project from the initial site visit through the final walkthrough. One crew, one schedule, one phone number to call if you have a question.
We have been building pools and outdoor spaces across Massachusetts since 2000. Over 1,000 completed projects across 30+ communities, from Bellingham and the MetroWest towns to Wellesley, Newton, Concord, Lexington, and the Greater Boston suburbs.
The area surrounding your pool gets more foot traffic, more water exposure, and more freeze-thaw stress than almost any other hardscape surface on your property. If the base is not built correctly, you will see shifting, settling, cracked joints, and uneven surfaces within a few years.
J. Gudiel Landscape holds Unilock Authorized Contractor certification, which means our paver deck installations follow manufacturer specifications for base depth, compaction, drainage pitch, joint stabilization, and edge restraint. We build on 6 to 8 inches of compacted crushed gravel (not the 4 inches that some contractors use to save time). We use geotextile fabric where soil conditions require it. We compact polymeric sand into the joints properly so it actually binds, rather than washing out after the first rain.
We work with pavers from Unilock, Techo-Bloc, Cambridge, and Nicolock. These are not generic big-box pavers. They are commercial-grade products engineered for performance in climates like ours. The color holds, the surface stays slip-resistant, and the structural integrity lasts through decades of Massachusetts winters.
The result is a pool deck that looks right on day one and still looks right ten years later.
“Jose listened to how we wanted to use the space, kids, entertaining, low-maintenance, and came back with a smart layout that maximized sun, privacy, and traffic flow. The pool looks incredible, and the paver deck is the showpiece of our backyard. We’ve already hosted two gatherings, and everyone compliments the craftsmanship.”
“Jose was very flexible… it truly feels like a resort at home. Every person who comes over comments on the yard. Jose and team also stand behind their work, how a company addresses issues is what sets J. Gudiel Landscaping apart.”
Most inground pool projects fall between $50,000 and $150,000 depending on pool type (fiberglass, vinyl liner, or gunite), size, site conditions, and the scope of surrounding hardscape and landscaping. Fiberglass tends to be on the lower end, gunite on the higher end. We provide a detailed written proposal after visiting your property, so you know the full cost before any work begins.
Fiberglass pools typically take 4 to 6 weeks from excavation to completion. Vinyl liner pools take 4 to 8 weeks. Gunite pools take 8 to 12 weeks depending on complexity. These timelines include all hardscape, landscaping, electrical, and plumbing work. Weather and permitting can affect the schedule, and we communicate any changes as soon as they come up.
Most homeowners begin the planning process in late winter or early spring (February through April) to have the pool ready for summer. Excavation and construction can begin once the ground thaws, typically March or April in this area. Starting early gives the best chance of swimming by July. We also take on fall installations for homeowners planning ahead for the following summer.
Yes. We manage the full permitting process including applications, inspections, and coordination with local building departments. Pool installations in Massachusetts require building permits, electrical permits, and in some towns, zoning approval and fencing compliance. You do not have to deal with any of this directly.
All three types (fiberglass, vinyl liner, gunite) work in Massachusetts when installed correctly. Fiberglass handles freeze-thaw well because the shell has some flex. Vinyl liner pools are durable but the liner needs replacement every 7 to 12 years. Gunite is the most permanent but requires proper winterization. The best choice depends on your budget, design preferences, and how you plan to use the pool. We walk through the pros and cons of each during the consultation.
We build pools for homeowners across MetroWest, Greater Boston, and surrounding Massachusetts communities.
J. Gudiel Landscape is one of a limited number of Unilock Authorized Contractors in Massachusetts. Our team has completed specialized training in paver installation techniques and meets Unilock’s standards for base preparation, drainage, joint stabilization, and edge restraint.
For homeowners, this means three things: access to Unilock’s full premium product line (including options not available through standard installers), installation that follows manufacturer specifications (which is what makes your patio survive 25 Massachusetts winters, not just 5), and eligibility for Unilock’s extended warranty program.
