Pool Installation Questions

How much does a pool installation cost in Massachusetts?
Most inground pool projects fall between $50,000 and $150,000 depending on pool type (fiberglass, vinyl liner, or gunite), size, site conditions, and the scope of surrounding hardscape and landscaping. We provide a detailed written proposal after visiting your property.
Fiberglass pools typically take 4 to 6 weeks. Vinyl liner pools take 4 to 8 weeks. Gunite pools take 8 to 12 weeks. These timelines include all hardscape, landscaping, electrical, and plumbing work.

Most homeowners begin planning in late winter or early spring (February through April) to have the pool ready for summer. Excavation can begin once the ground thaws, typically March or April. Starting early gives the best chance of swimming by July.

Yes. We manage the full permitting process including building permits, electrical permits, inspections, and fencing compliance. You do not have to deal with the town directly.

All three types (fiberglass, vinyl liner, gunite) work in Massachusetts when installed correctly. Fiberglass handles freeze-thaw well due to shell flexibility. Vinyl liner pools are durable but the liner needs replacement every 7 to 12 years. Gunite is the most permanent and fully customizable. We walk through the pros and cons of each during the consultation.

Yes. Every pool project includes the paver deck, drainage, landscape finishing, and lighting. One team handles the full scope.

Hardscape Design Questions

How much does a patio cost in Massachusetts?

Paver patio projects typically range from $8,000 to $40,000+ depending on size, material choice, site conditions, and additional features (retaining walls, fire pits, steps, seat walls).

We build on 6 to 8 inches of compacted crushed gravel for all residential hardscape. Some contractors use 4 inches to save time and cost, but in Massachusetts, a thinner base leads to settling and shifting within a few seasons. The extra base depth is the difference between a patio that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 25.

Unilock (we are an Authorized Contractor), Techo-Bloc, Cambridge, and Nicolock. These are commercial-grade products engineered for performance in climates like ours.

Any retaining wall over 4 feet in height requires a structural engineering plan. We coordinate with licensed engineers, handle permitting, and build to the engineered specifications.

It is a workmanship guarantee backed by Unilock that covers both the product and the installation on qualifying projects. As an Authorized Contractor, J. Gudiel Landscape installations are eligible for this coverage.

Composite Deck Questions

How much does a composite deck cost?
Most composite deck projects fall between $15,000 and $50,000+ depending on size, product line, features (railings, lighting, built-ins), and site conditions.
Over the life of the deck, composite typically costs less than wood when you factor in maintenance. Pressure-treated wood needs staining every 1 to 2 years and eventual board replacement. Composite needs occasional cleaning and nothing else. The materials carry 25 to 30+ year warranties. Most homeowners find the math favors composite within 5 to 7 years.
Trex, TimberTech, and Deckorators. Trex Transcend is our most popular for standard backyard decks. TimberTech PVC is our recommendation for pool decks and high-moisture areas. Deckorators is a strong option when the budget is tighter but the homeowner still wants composite performance.

Yes. Most Massachusetts towns require a building permit for new deck construction, including structural plans, footing inspection, framing inspection, and final inspection. We handle the entire process.

For more deck details, see our Composite Deck Building page.

Commercial Landscaping and Snow Management Questions

How much does commercial landscaping cost?

Commercial maintenance contracts typically range from $20,000 to $200,000+ per year depending on property size, scope of services, and visit frequency. We provide a detailed proposal after completing a site assessment

Yes. Most commercial clients bundle landscaping and snow management into a 12-month contract. One vendor, one invoice, consistent property care all year.

Yes. We manage multiple sites for several property management firms and HOA management companies under single contracts. Coordinated scheduling, consistent standards, one point of contact.

Our commercial snow contracts include guaranteed response times. We monitor forecasts continuously, pre-stage equipment, and begin clearing at the trigger depth specified in your contract.

Residential Landscaping and Lawn Care Questions

When is the best time to plant in Massachusetts?

Spring (April through June) and fall (September through mid-November) are the ideal planting windows. Spring gives plants a full growing season to establish. Fall planting takes advantage of cooler temperatures and consistent moisture for root development.

Yes. We correct grade lines, install French drains and catch basins, and manage downspout discharge as part of landscaping and hardscape projects. Addressing drainage during a landscaping project is far more cost-effective than fixing it separately later.
Residential lawn care plans typically range from $2,000 to $10,000+ per year depending on property size, visit frequency, and scope. We provide a specific quote based on your property.

Weekly mowing, edging, dethatching, spring and fall cleanups, and leaf removal. We do not currently offer fertilization, aeration, or overseeding.

Residential Landscaping covers design, plant installation, grading, drainage, irrigation, and yard renovation. Lawn Care covers the weekly and seasonal upkeep of the lawn (mowing, cleanups, leaf removal). Many clients use both.

Pricing and Process Questions

Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Jose visits your property, walks the space with you, discusses the project, and provides a detailed written proposal with full scope, materials, timeline, and cost. No charge, no obligation.
Our proposals include the full scope of work, specific materials (brand, product line, color), dimensions, project timeline, and total cost. There are no vague line items. You know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before any work begins.
Yes. A deposit is required to schedule the project and reserve the materials. The deposit amount is specified in the proposal. Remaining payments are structured based on the project size and timeline.
During peak season (spring and summer), we recommend reaching out 4 to 8 weeks before your ideal start date. Pool installations and large hardscape projects should be booked even earlier, ideally in late winter for a summer completion. For commercial snow contracts, we recommend signing by September or early October.
Changes happen. If something needs to be adjusted during construction, Jose discusses it with you before proceeding. Any changes to scope or cost are communicated clearly and agreed upon before the work is done. No surprise charges.
